Back in March and early April, I was waiting to hear back about the decision to be accepted into the doctoral program I applied to. Interestingly enough, I was not accepted and I wrote a blog post about it entitled Delayed...Not Denied! I said during that time, I was a little disappointed; however, I realized it was not my timing and that greater things would be coming.
Well this is an update to that story. Since that time, I began a new role; which I thoroughly enjoy. Hindsight, while I am enjoying this my new role, I think it was best I did not start working on my next degree at the current time. There were so many things and are still so many things I am learning as a result of this new position. Overwhelmed would be an understatement if I had done the program I wanted to at this present time.
As a result of not being enrolled in school at the current moment, I have been able to do more self-examination about my life personally and professionally. I have also began to reexamine what my passion is and where my giftings lie. One of my biggest passions I have exists within Curriculum and Instruction. But I recognize more and more, school culture and relationships between students and staff are becoming stronger interests of mine. For if you do not have a well developed culture and relationships formed, then what good is the curriculum and instruction aspect? Someone once told me that the students will never learn from those they do not respect (note that liking someone and respecting them are two very different attributes). I am going to take the phrase a step further and say that no one, rather student or educator, will truly learn from those they do not respect. With that being said, I have been thinking about making a transition into leadership. It is something I have known for a while, but fear is what kept me from pursuing it earlier.
As I close, I am going to leave with this song, which has helped motivate me to tear down that wall of fear. "Great is your joy, great is your peace!"
