It has been a while since I blogged. I normally try to post once a month to help me reflect and to share with others. I will do better from this point on.
As many of you know we are at time of the year that teachers and students look forward to...the best time of year...TESTING! For many students, online is the only option they have in order to accomplish the task. Those who know me know I have never been a fan of standardized testing because of how the results are used; punitively. Also, I have been a student who just never tested well. I was always a much better student than test taker.
I really have tried to give testing this year a fair chance, but I have grown just a tad frustrated. From seeing student exhausted from the amount of time it is taking per section and to dealing with frustrations over technical difficulties, I have grown very disillusioned and very vanquished! I just can't help, but think while trying to troubleshoot technical issues, how reliable are these assessment?! More importantly, how VALID is the assessment now once technical issues arise or the students become disengaged from it?! Also the fact these assessments count towards evaluations...I'm just not pleased and have grown very weary.
Thank God for legislation like ESSA. Hopefully, One Day, When the Glory Comes...when standardized testing will be reformed to assess for learning, not profit and for evaluation purposes...my disillusionment will fade.
