As I sit and reflect on this first month of the year, I can't help first begin to think about a theme that seems to keep coming up over and over again thus far. Two weeks prior to the New Year, someone mentioned to me about coming to their Vision Board party. For the past two or three years, I have created a vision board to help me think about my goals that I want to accomplish for the upcoming year. However, I soon learned this year's thought process of my vision proved to be greater.
It amazed me while at the Vision Board party I was at on New Year's Eve, a fellow educator stated I should allow my students to create one. At first I was hesitant. I kind of just passed what they said off. However, a few days later while at church, the pastor theme for the year was vision. Immediately, all I could think was, "WOW, is God trying to speak to me?" One of the first scriptures the pastor read from was from Proverbs 29:18, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Then he read from Habakkuk 2:2, "Write the vision, make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it."
Those two scriptures stood out to me. It is not to say I had never heard those, but it was something at that moment and within the message that convinced me that know the vision for my year ahead was greater than me. I have seen my visions from past years become a reality. It was also funny because in that moment I also began to think of how great it would be for my students to create their own vision board. Ultimately, the words that had the biggest effect on me were, "A life without vision will be without purpose." I am a fan of Dr. Myles Monroe's words about knowing your purpose. He states that without purpose, abuse is inevitable. (Honestly, that is why I feel there is so many problems that exists...people are not operating in their purpose, but I digress).
I will close with this. I want my students to see the things they want to accomplish this year. I want them to also work at those things for faith without works is dead. I want to their visions to prosper and for them to recognize the ability and strength they have. Furthermore, I want my vision, which seems to be revealed from God, to manifest. I know my greater is coming and I know the greater is not just for me. When God reveals a vision to you, it will always be bigger than just you. I can say, the topic of vision has a greater, deeper meaning that I do not think many people will understand. If you haven't yet, "Write the vision, make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it."
