The other day, while I was on my planning period, I happened to check my email for something and in the process, I happen to see something I had been waiting on for a while. It was the letter for my interview for the Ed.D. program at Georgia State for the Curriculum and Instruction program. It was like at that moment I saw my vision becoming real that I had on my vision board.
While that was not the acceptance letter, it did make me put into perspective how real this is for my life. More importantly, I could not be more excited to learn more not for myself, but to better help my students. I could not think however much of a stronger teacher I have become by being in graduate school. I will say it is not easy being a full time teacher and a full time student. However, when I see my students succeed because of the wealth of knowledge I have acquired, it makes the long nights, stress, and sacrifices worth it.
With my Master's program, I have learned a lot about K-5 Mathematics. It is my hope now with this new program of study to focus on K-5 Literacy/Reading. I want to really study strategies that help struggling readers and how to embedded reading and mathematics into a more integral study in the traditional classroom. I pray next Wednesday that the interview goes well. Soon to be Ed.D. is truly happening!
